Beige and Mink Oushak-Pattern Loom-Woven Wool Rug, Tempus Series

A loom-woven wool rug in beige and mink, carrying a classic Oushak pattern — Oushak is the weaving region of western Anatolia whose large-scale floral and medallion drawing has been copied for four centuries.

01The memory of a region

Woven in the Aegean region of Türkiye for Halıcızade. Five sizes are made; the largest is 300 × 400 cm (9'10" × 13'1") and the smallest 130 × 190 cm (4'3" × 6'3"). Beige holds the field and the deeper mink sits behind it, so the pattern has somewhere to stand.

02Where the Border comes from

The Oushak drawing is the fine kind rather than the bold kind: small linked flowers and a framed border, worked at a scale that rewards standing over it. Against warm oak and cream upholstery the two tones read as one soft, continuous surface; put it in an office with darker furniture and the mink is what registers first.

03Knot by knot, by hand

It is the pattern to pick when a room already has enough going on and needs its floor to be classical without being loud. The surface is wool over a cotton warp, and the pile is packed on the loom tightly enough that the rug has the heft of a knotted one when you lift a corner. Medium in build and closely set, it lies flat and gives dust very little purchase. Every Tempus piece carries the Halıcızade tree-of-life mark woven into it.

04The mark of slow weaving

The house is careful not to call this hand-knotting: what the technique borrows from a knotted rug is the density, not the price. Medium thickness, dense weave — comfortable to walk on and easy to vacuum. Marked with the Halıcızade tree-of-life. Five sizes: 130 × 190, 160 × 230, 200 × 300, 250 × 350 and 300 × 400 cm. Professional washing, as with any dense wool pile. Put it in a living room and it will still be doing the same quiet job in fifteen years, which is more than most patterned rugs manage.
