Motifs rubbed soft on cream, off a Kütahya loom

On the surface: Natural, Wool, Viscose, Cotton. The same pattern woven in another yarn becomes another rug; the difference shows at the first touch.
Modern pattern. Because the pattern comes from inside the weave, it can be followed from the back as well. Built on a cream ground.
This rug is woven in Türkiye. It comes straight from the workshop with no reseller layer; the place on the spec sheet and the place it was woven are the same.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. A pad laid underneath holds the rug in place and stops it rubbing against the floor; besides preventing sliding it also extends its life.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.
Motifs rubbed soft on cream, off a Kütahya loom
Wool for the body, viscose for the light, cotton underneath: a loom-woven rug in cream, 230 × 330 cm (7'7" × 10'10"), with faded vintage drawing worked across the surface. Heritage Series, woven in Kütahya, a single piece. Cream is the hardest ground to make interesting and the easiest to live with.
Here the motifs are set down softly, their edges worn rather than sharp, so the field carries a pattern without announcing one. In daylight the warm undertone lifts and the room reads brighter; under lamps the same ground goes quieter.
Beside plain furniture it disappears into the scheme, and beside classical furniture it holds the arrangement together from below. The technique is loom-woven — a mechanical loom lays down the structure in Kütahya and traditional hand work finishes it, which is where the hand-knotted feel comes from.
Wool makes up most of the pile. Viscose yarns are worked in with it so the drawing catches a little light instead of sitting flat, and cotton forms the base. It sheds and gives off dust very little, and it holds its shape over years. Heritage is produced in small runs, and this size in this color is not repeated to order. Loom-woven in Kütahya: mechanical structure, hand finishing. Wool pile with viscose worked through it, over a cotton foundation. Cream ground with soft-edged, faded vintage motifs. Warmer under lamps, brighter by day. 230 × 330 cm (7'7" × 10'10") — a large sitting room, with the seating inside the edges. A pale ground shows traffic; keep it out of a hallway. Small production run, and the only one at this size in cream. Cleaning is a job for a rug washer. Cream rugs settle rather than fade; in five years this will be a slightly warmer version of itself, and that is the whole of what happens to it.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
