The story of this rug

The whole surface is long, shaggy, grass-green pile, with no pattern on it. It measures 190 × 199 cm (6'3" × 6'6"), about 3.8 square meters (41 square feet): nearly square, and the 9 cm difference between the sides is invisible to the eye. In Anatolia these long-pile rugs are called tülü, a name that comes from tüylü, hairy. A tülü is known for its pile more than its pattern; the eye goes to the surface itself. In the photographs the green darkens and lightens in places.

01The mark of slow weaving

In long pile, light reflects differently from the side and from the tip of the yarn, so the tone shifts wherever the pile changes direction. Hand-knotted in a village in Türkiye, in wool. The pile is so long that the edges and fringe are hidden in the photographs. Its near-square proportion suits a round or square coffee table, or the middle of a child's room. At the foot of a bed, the long pile leaves a thick layer under bare feet.

02After the color

Green this intense should be the room's single accent: off-white walls, light oak, a cream bouclé chair. Brick or dusty rose, the complements of green, used in a single cushion make the green look more vivid. Not one motif, not one border line, anywhere on the surface.

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?
