The story of this rug

Khaki Green Plain Hand-Knotted Rug, Ayan Series — khaki, which is the quietest green there is, crossed by fine cream strokes that read as brush marks rather than as a motif. Knotted by hand in Pakistan from wool and silk, 201 × 302 cm (6'7" × 9'11"). A single piece. Those strokes come from the direction of the knotting.

01What the yarn is

Yarn worked at angles to itself raises a low relief that catches light on one side and holds shadow on the other, so parts of the field are pale from one end of the room and dark from the other.

02Underfoot

A surface with no drawing on it turns out to be the most restless thing in a busy room, and also the calmest. With beige and cream furniture and wood detail it goes natural; put dark green plants and brass beside it and the same rug sits comfortably in a formal room. Wool builds the structure of the pile and silk is run through it to lift the surface, which is why the depth here is visible in texture rather than in a change of color.

03Knot by knot, by hand

The knot is doubled and tight, the Ayan technique, and it is the reason the rug will keep its shape and its tone through years of chairs being pushed back from a table. Months of hand work in Pakistan went into it. Part of the series exists only here.

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
