02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool rug

Wool ages over the years by settling into its place rather than by losing its shine. Used, it softens rather than hardens.

02

Modern pattern

Modern, Classic pattern. The motif is built row by row as the weaving advances; it is only seen whole once it comes off the loom. The ground color is brown.

03

Afghanistan weave

This rug is woven in Afghanistan. The place of production is written on the spec sheet; it comes straight from the workshop that wove it, with no reseller chain.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. For everyday care use a head without a beater bar and follow the direction of the pile; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Brown Oushak-Pattern Handwoven Wool Rug, Retro Series — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

Afghanistan and Pakistan, by weavers working in the older tradition: that is where this Retro Series rug in brown was made, its classical Oushak motifs redrawn in saturated browns over a wool surface on a cotton foundation.

01Knot by knot, by hand

The knotting is dense and the finish has been washed up to a shine. There is one of this piece. Brown is a difficult ground to keep interesting, and what keeps this one interesting is that it runs in two registers at once — a bright, almost polished brown across the open areas and a deep one in the motifs.

02The origin of the pattern

The Oushak drawing sits between geometric and floral, as it always has, and in this coloring it goes with whatever else is in the room: warm woods, leather, brass, and equally with gray and white.

03From ground to pile

The shine picks up ambient color, so a room with a strong wall color will find some of that wall reflected in its floor. Wool makes the entire surface. Below it, cotton carries the structure, with a small share of recycled synthetic worked in for strength — which the house prefers to print.

04Coming off the loom

Knot density is set high, and that is where the wear resistance comes from and also why the drawing holds its detail at this scale. The brightness is a finishing process: the yarn is dyed and the rug washed by a method the series uses on every piece, which is why Retro rugs carry a gloss and a depth of tone together. Leave washing to people who wash rugs for a living. Handwoven in Afghanistan and Pakistan for the Retro Series. Wool face on cotton, with a little recycled synthetic in the foundation. Classical Oushak motifs in bright and deep browns. High knot density — the source of the wear resistance and of the detail. The gloss comes from the series' own dyeing and washing method. Works with warm woods, leather and brass, and with gray and white. Professional washing. One piece. Brown floors get overlooked in a catalog and chosen in a house, which is roughly the right order.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
