02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool weave

Wool is naturally hard to ignite; an ember landing on it goes out by itself without catching flame. That is why wool is chosen in front of a fireplace.

02

Classic pattern

Classic pattern. The motif is not printed on the surface; it is built as the rug is woven. The ground is blue, turquoise.

03

Pakistan weave

This rug is woven in Pakistan and carries the weaving tradition of that region. The place of production is stated openly on the spec sheet.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Blot a spill with a dry cloth instead of rubbing it; rubbing spreads the stain and mats the pile.

Turquoise Oushak-Pattern Handwoven Wool Rug, Mahal Series — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

In Pakistan there are workshops that have kept the Anatolian double knot alive for generations, and one of them made this: a Mahal Series Oushak-pattern rug, turquoise ground inside broad cream borders, 197 × 261 cm (6'6" × 8'7"), wool over cotton.

01Color that shifts through the day

One piece. Turquoise is the difficult member of the blue family — too green and it turns clinical, too blue and it stops being turquoise at all. Here it holds in the middle, cooled by the cream that surrounds it and warmed by the earth tones inside the motif work.

02Coming off the loom

The Oushak forms are drawn with fine curves and flower shapes rather than hard geometry, and they behave differently at different hours: direct sun lifts them off the ground almost completely, while evening light flattens them back into it and the whole rug goes quiet. The double knot the weavers used ties around two warps and is the reason a rug of this age of design survives a century of feet.

03What Wool does

Wool makes the whole visible surface, cotton the foundation, plus a marginal amount of synthetic thread to hold the shape. It is not a thick rug, and the hand of it is solid rather than soft; that solidity is why it keeps its rectangle and why a vacuum is enough between washes.

04At the loom in in Pakistan

Hand-dyed yarn puts a great many natural tones into one turquoise field, which is the thing worth looking at up close. Take it to a professional for washing. Woven in Pakistan by hands that still work the Anatolian double knot. Turquoise field framed by wide cream borders in earth tones. Fine curving Oushak motifs, drawn as flowers rather than geometry. Hand-dyed yarn: many natural tones inside a single color. Wool surface, cotton foundation, a little synthetic yarn for form. 197 × 261 cm (6'6" × 8'7") — a sitting room, a study, an office. Solid rather than soft, and it keeps its shape. Professional washing.

05The tone of the ground

One rug. Turquoise dates faster than any other color in a rug, and this one avoids it by being three tones at once.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
