Woven at Diyarbakır and Erzurum, the motifs in cocoon silk

Classic pattern. Because the pattern comes from inside the weave, it can be followed from the back as well. Built on a beige, cream ground.
This rug is woven in Türkiye. It comes straight from the workshop with no reseller layer; the place on the spec sheet and the place it was woven are the same.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. A pad laid underneath holds the rug in place and stops it rubbing against the floor; besides preventing sliding it also extends its life.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.
Woven at Diyarbakır and Erzurum, the motifs in cocoon silk
This model is no longer made. Has Halı wove it — a mill with a long record in dense Turkish hand weaving — at 217 × 301 cm (7'1" × 9'11"), in first-shearing Erzurum fleece with pure cocoon silk in the pattern, cream and beige under gold, on the double Turkish knot. Oushak drawing is the source, reworked rather than reproduced, and at this size the pattern has the room to be read the way it was designed to be — the eye follows a line from a corner into the middle without interruption.
Cream, beige and gold make a soft field on a pale floor and a strong one on dark stone; that is the same rug behaving in two ways, and it is worth deciding which of them you want before it is unrolled. Silk is confined to the drawing and wool carries the floor.
First-shearing fleece is the oilier, brighter clip, which is where the surface sheen begins before any silk is counted. Production of this model has ended, so the rug in front of you is the last of its kind rather than the first of a run — no second one is coming, and a size like this cannot be repeated.
Washing is best left to a workshop. Hand-knotted in Diyarbakır and Erzurum by Has Halı; production discontinued. The pile is first-shearing Erzurum fleece; the motifs are pure cocoon silk. Double Turkish knot, at a high knot density. Cream and beige with gold, drawn from Oushak sources. 217 × 301 cm (7'1" × 9'11") — a large salon or a wide entrance hall. Soft on a pale floor, strong against dark stone or wood. Professional washing. One piece, and not repeatable. The pattern it carries was old before the mill that wove it existed, and it will not look dated in a room in twenty years.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
