Erzurum's first clip in the pile, cocoon silk in the flowers

On the surface: Natural, Wool, Silk. The shine of the rug, its weight and what its care asks all follow from that choice.
Classic pattern. The motif is built while the rug is woven; there is no layer printed on afterward. There is cream in the ground.
This rug is woven in Türkiye. Where a rug is from is read in its knot and its yarn more than in its pattern; that is why the place on the spec sheet matters.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Once a week with a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile, is enough for everyday care.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.
Erzurum's first clip in the pile, cocoon silk in the flowers
The wool is first-shearing Erzurum fleece and the silk is pure cocoon silk: an Ottoman Series rug hand-knotted in Türkiye, 163 × 255 cm (5'4" × 8'4"), cream and beige with gold through the flowers, tied on the double Turkish knot by weavers in Diyarbakır and Erzurum.
One piece. First shearing is the earliest clip, oilier and brighter than what follows, and it is where both the softness and the way this surface returns light rather than absorbing it come from.
The flower drawing is taken from Oushak sources and redrawn, so it reads classical without reading antique. Cream, beige and gold together look warm on a pale floor and read as a bright rectangle on dark stone or stained board. The double knot — the Gördes or Turkish knot, tied around two warps instead of one — is what makes the pile stand upright rather than lie over, and it is why a rug built this way can be walked on for a generation without going bald in the traffic lanes.
Silk is used in the pattern only, where it holds a finer line than wool can. Cream and gold on a pale ground shows dust sooner than a dark rug would; that is the cost of the color, and it is worth knowing in advance.
Washing belongs in a workshop and not in a bucket at home. Hand-knotted in Diyarbakır and Erzurum, Türkiye. First-shearing Erzurum fleece in the pile; pure cocoon silk in the pattern. Tied on the double Turkish knot, around two warps, so the pile stands up. Cream and beige ground with gold through the Oushak-derived flowers. 163 × 255 cm (5'4" × 8'4") — a long living room or a wide entrance. Warm on a pale floor, bright against dark stone or stained board. A pale ground; dust shows sooner than it would on a dark rug. Professional washing only.
One piece. Silk holds its shine long after the wool around it has gone soft, so the flowers will still be the brightest part of this rug when it is old.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
