The series takes its name from Sultanahmet, the İstanbul district around the mosque, and it keeps the classical arrangement that name implies: a bordered rectangle, a repeating floral inside it, corners that answer one another. Purple sits between red and blue and takes on whichever of the two is stronger in the room. Beside a warm bulb it goes toward plum; under northern light it moves closer to slate.

India made it by hand, for Halıcızade. Wool takes the pile and bamboo viscose goes into the drawing, for a return of light the wool will not give; underneath, a cotton warp and weft hold the rug square at this width. Purple is a color to test against your own walls before committing to it, because it is the one ground that can look like two different rugs in a photograph and in a room. Professional washing.
