This rug is woven in India. It comes straight from the workshop with no reseller layer; the place on the spec sheet and the place it was woven are the same.

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. A pad laid underneath holds the rug in place and stops it rubbing against the floor; besides preventing sliding it also extends its life.

The story of this rug

Sultanahmet is the district of İstanbul around the Blue Mosque, and the series named for it keeps to that register: quiet, classical, nothing raised. Cream Branching Floral Hand-Knotted Wool Rug, Sultanahmet Series, 170 × 240 cm (5'7" × 7'10"), hand-knotted in India — cotton beneath, wool above, bamboo viscose in the branches. The pattern branches. Stems leave the main lines and put out smaller stems, and the field grows outward from itself instead of repeating a unit — closer to a hedge than to wallpaper.

01What Wool does

Bamboo viscose is worked through the branches and gives them a faint gloss, so the tone of the motifs shifts with the angle of the light while the cream underneath does not move at all. No single figure dominates anywhere on the rug, and that is deliberate: it was made for people who want classical lines and do not want a medallion staring back up at them. Tens of thousands of knots, tied by hand in India over months. Cotton and wool carry the structure and the pile; the bamboo viscose does nothing except catch light.

02Color, by the light

Cream is a light ground and behaves like one — it opens up a room, and it shows what happens on it, which is reason enough to keep it out of a hallway that takes outdoor shoes. Beside walnut or solid timber it settles immediately.

03What the yarn is

Vacuum and wipe as needed; when it needs more than that, a professional does it. Cotton foundation, wool pile, bamboo viscose in the branches; made in India. A branching floral field with no central medallion. Bamboo viscose gives the branches a faint gloss against a matt cream ground. Tens of thousands of knots over several months. 170 × 240 cm (5'7" × 7'10") — front of a sofa, foot of a bed, or an entrance hall. A light ground: it opens a room, and it shows traffic. Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Hallway · runner

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
