The story of this rug

Yellow is a difficult color to put on a floor, and this one manages it by staying warm rather than bright. Yellow Gabbeh-Motif Loom-Woven Wool Rug, Urkum Series: 100% wool, with green, red, blue and white figures scattered over a yellow ground and colored fringes at both ends, woven in India in eight sizes, the largest 230 × 330 cm (7'7" × 10'10"). Gabbeh figures come out of nomadic weaving — animals, plants and abstracted signs, placed by eye rather than laid out on a grid — and that scattering is what keeps a yellow ground from looking flat.

01Color that shifts through the day

The other colors are used sparingly and never in blocks, so the eye travels across the field instead of settling anywhere. The fringes are colored as well, an unusual finishing choice that reads as playful rather than formal. Its body is loom-set and its edges are hand-finished, which is the whole of the technique.

02How it feels underfoot

All wool: thick, firm, and heavy enough underfoot to feel like a traditional rug rather than a modern one. Halıcızade has these made for itself in India. Given how much wool is in it, the house does not recommend it for anyone with respiratory sensitivity. Loom-woven in India, made for Halıcızade. 100% wool. Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
