The story of this rug

The motif is the cypress — the slender dark tree that stands in Ottoman gardens and cemeteries and has been woven into Anatolian rugs for as long as they have been recorded. Here it is drawn in a ring over a green ground, on a round rug in Tencel® over cotton.

01Color, by the light

Two diameters, 160 cm and 200 cm: that is 5'3" and 6'7" across. Green under a cypress is the obvious pairing, and the reason it works is that the two greens are different — the ground is soft and slightly grayed, the trees are drawn against it rather than in it.

02The origin of the pattern

The circular format sends the motifs around the edge instead of across a field, so the middle stays open and the rug does not compete with what is standing on it. In a bedroom it sits under the foot of the bed; in an entrance hall it takes the corner off a square room. Zara is made on looms in the Oushak district, largely by women, and each fringe is tied individually once the weaving is finished — the detail that keeps a loom-woven rug from looking mass-produced.

03From ground to pile

The pile is Tencel® over a cotton foundation, giving a soft surface with a low sheen and no wool at all. It is the cheaper way to the look of a hand-knotted rug, and the house is direct about that being the trade. Woven on looms in Oushak, Türkiye; fringes tied by hand afterward. Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
