Full description

In the Turkish trade a rug this small is called a yastık, a pillow, and it often ends up as a cushion face. This one is 60 × 90 cm (2'0" × 2'11"), about half a square meter (roughly 6 square feet): a wool pile rug made by hand in Türkiye.

The center medallion is angular. Warp and weft cross at right angles, which makes a circle hard to weave, and that is why the central motif of an Anatolian rug is so often drawn with straight sides. Here a red hexagon holds a second hexagon in tan.

The field is navy. A white toothed outline runs around the red hexagon, and a hooked pendant reaches out from its top and bottom. Inside the tan core are green zigzags and a dark red cross. Tan panels close both short ends, each carrying a chain of diamonds. The outer border is navy, with a yellow line zigzagging along it between small red flowers.

At this size it serves as a doormat on the floor or a small panel on a wall. Over pale oak or a limewashed wall the navy border draws a crisp edge; on a dark surface the two navies run together. A brass sconce or a mustard cushion carries the tan of the end panels into the room.

The yellow line in the outer border breaks and turns at each corner.

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
