The story of this rug

This is a rug face made up as a cushion, which is why it is 59 × 110 cm (1'11" × 3'7") and not the size of a pillow. Handwoven wool in red, on cotton, with Anatolian motifs drawn in the village manner of Kırşehir in central Anatolia.

01Knot by knot, by hand

Halıcızade lists it among its rare pieces, and there is one. Kırşehir lies on the central plateau, and weaving from its villages is known for red grounds and for motifs that are geometric because that is what a village loom can hold, not because anyone was aiming at abstraction.

02The origin of the pattern

What arrives on a cushion of this size is a fragment of that language rather than a whole composition — a section of field, part of a border, sometimes a motif cut by the edge. Read as an object it is closer to a piece of textile hung on a bench than to a soft furnishing. Wool takes the visible face, cotton the foundation behind it. At almost a meter and a fifth long this belongs on a divan, a window seat or the floor rather than propped in an armchair, and it is heavier in the hand than a filled cushion of the same footprint.

03From ground to pile

It should be washed the way a rug is washed and not the way a cushion cover is. Handwoven wool face on a cotton foundation, made in Türkiye. Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
