The story of this rug

110 × 167 cm (3'7" × 5'6"), about 1.8 square meters (roughly 20 square feet): enough kilim for the side of a bed or the floor in front of an armchair. It was handwoven in Türkiye, and the product record lists wool as its only yarn. The wheat ear is one of the motifs Anatolian weaving associates with plenty.

01Up close to the pattern

On the red field of this kilim, long striped figures that resemble wheat ears stand in rows. The edges of the field step outward on either side. Small leaves and arrows in cream, navy, green and pale blue are scattered between the wheat ears.

02Color, by the light

A wide orange area surrounds the field, repeating herringbone branches drawn in thin cream lines, and a dark burgundy stripe runs along the outside. Red and orange are neighbors, the step between them is soft, and the kilim reads as one surface. In a room weighted toward gray and white, the red and orange become the liveliest point. A gray or charcoal sofa pushes the red and orange forward, and a white wall sharpens the separation.

03The tone of the ground

In wood, dark walnut sits at the same depth as the burgundy edge. Making room for navy among the cushions carries the small navy leaves into the room. With no pile, the surface is thin and flat, so it can also be layered over a plain, light rug, where the red field stands out even more. Along the long sides, the burgundy stripe cuts into the orange in a toothed line.

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
