02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool yarn

The air trapped between wool fibers holds heat and keeps the cold of the floor from your feet. The same air balances humidity in summer.

02

Authentic pattern

Authentic pattern. The motif is built while the rug is woven; there is no layer printed on afterward. There is colorful in the ground.

03

Türkiye weaving tradition

This rug is woven in Türkiye. Where a rug is from is read in its knot and its yarn more than in its pattern; that is why the place on the spec sheet matters.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Once a week with a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile, is enough for everyday care.

Technical details

Striped Anatolian Handwoven Wool Çanakkale Kilim — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

Çanakkale sits at the Dardanelles, where the Aegean coast of Türkiye faces Europe across a strait, and its kilims are banded rather than medallioned. This is one: handwoven wool, 156 × 258 cm (5'1" × 8'6"), multicolored, built as a sequence of stripes with Anatolian motifs worked into them.

01Knot by knot, by hand

A single old piece. Banded construction is the oldest logic in flatweaving, because it follows what a loom actually does. A weaver working without a cartoon advances upward in horizontal courses, and a band structure lets each course be decided as it arrives — a wider stripe here because the wool was there, a narrower one after it, a row of motifs in between when the composition wanted breaking. The result is a piece that reads as rhythm rather than as a picture, and one that never repeats itself exactly from bottom to top.

02The mark of slow weaving

Look at where the bands change width and you are looking at the weaver's working days. Wool from end to end, flat-woven, no pile and no knots. A striped kilim has an advantage most rugs do not: it has no orientation. Nothing points, nothing centers, so it can be laid either way round and turned end for end every year to spread the wear, which for a piece this age is the single most useful thing you can do for it. It also hangs well, since the bands read as horizontals on a wall.

03Coming off the loom

Cleaning should go to someone who handles old flatweaves. Handwoven in wool in the Çanakkale region of northwestern Türkiye. Banded construction: stripes of varying width with Anatolian motifs worked between. 156 × 258 cm (5'1" × 8'6"), about four square meters. No orientation — it can be laid either way and reversed end for end each year. The band widths were decided at the loom, so nothing repeats exactly. Flat and pileless; it hangs as readily as it lies. Cleaning by someone experienced with old flatweaves. An older single piece from the house's rare stock. A banded kilim is a record of the order in which it was made, read from the bottom up.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
