Cream Aubusson Hand-Knotted Wool Rug

Aubusson is a town in central France whose workshops have drawn flat, flowered rugs since the seventeenth century, and it is the drawing rather than the technique that travels. This is a hand-knotted rug carrying an Aubusson design in cream, 166 × 241 cm (5'5" × 7'11"), tied by hand in India over a wool and cotton ground with bamboo viscose worked through the pattern.

01The origin of the pattern
