02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool surface

On the surface: Wool, Bamboo, Cotton. The shine of the rug, its weight and what its care asks all follow from that choice.

02

Traditional pattern

Traditional pattern; the motif is built from the yarn itself, not from dye. It does not rub away as the surface wears. The ground reads brown, cream.

03

Nepal production

This rug is made in Nepal. Writing the place of production onto the spec sheet also makes clear where the price comes from.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Turning the rug a hundred and eighty degrees once a year spreads the load of sunlight and foot traffic evenly across the surface.

Cream Framed Hand-Knotted Wool Runner — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

01 / 05

Full description

Eighty-one centimeters wide and two meters ninety-four long — 2'8" × 9'8" — which is a corridor and nothing else. A hand-knotted runner made in India, cream, wool and bamboo viscose worked over cotton, with a framed drawing running the length. One piece.

A runner is the hardest shape to design for, because the drawing has to work seen end-on from a doorway and again sideways when somebody walks along it. The framed solution handles both: a border runs the whole perimeter and the field inside stays quiet, so from the doorway it reads as one long panel, and from beside it the border keeps the eye moving forward. Nothing repeats often enough to be counted, which is what makes a hall feel longer rather than shorter.

Knotted by hand in India — wool for the wear, bamboo viscose for the light that comes off a pale ground, cotton in the foundation. A hall is the worst place in a house for a pale rug, and that should be said before anything else about it: everyone who comes in walks its full length, and cream viscose keeps the record. Without a mat before it, there will be a darker path down the middle inside a year. Reverse it end for end annually so the wear spreads.

  • Knotted by hand in India, with bamboo viscose carried through the wool over cotton.
  • 81 × 294 cm (2'8" × 9'8") — a hall or corridor length.
  • A border round the whole perimeter with a quiet field inside.
  • Reads as a single long panel from a doorway.
  • A pale hall runner records traffic; put a mat before it.
  • Reverse it end for end each year.
  • Professional washing.
  • One piece at this length.

Halls are the last part of a house anyone furnishes and the first part every visitor sees, which is an argument that makes itself.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.
