02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool surface

Wool fiber carries its own natural oil, lanolin; dust and dirt sit on the surface instead of entering the fiber. That is why a vacuum does so much.

02

Authentic pattern layout

Authentic pattern. The ground and the motif are not parts of separate processes but of the same weave; the two advance together. The ground tone is red, burgundy.

03

Türkiye work

This rug is woven in Türkiye. We write down where it comes from, because we want to be able to name the workshop when someone asks.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. What wears a rug down over the years is not a stain but the dust that settles at the base of the pile and grinds the fibers from inside with every step.

Red Anatolian Hand-Knotted Plant-Dyed Wool Antep Rug — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

This hand-knotted Antep rug puts an Anatolian drawing on a red ground, 116 × 235 cm (3'10" × 7'9"), in wool colored with kök boya. It is past seventy years old and it spent most of that time folded in a chest, which is why the pile has not been worn away down the middle.

01A line from the archive

Long and narrow in proportion: closer to a corridor than a sitting room. Antep sits in the southeast, where Anatolian weaving meets the drawing traditions of northern Syria and northern Iraq, and rugs from the area tend to carry that inheritance in their motifs — angular, densely repeated, with a border built from several thin bands rather than one wide one.

02After the color

The red here comes from madder root, the standard source of red in Anatolian plant dyeing, and madder is the reason old Turkish reds settle into brick rather than staying at pillar-box brightness.

03What Wool does

Held against walnut or against a dark leather chair, that shade belongs; held against a cool gray room it will look like the only warm thing present, which may be exactly the point. Wool in the yarn record and nothing else.

04The origin of the pattern

Seventy years is the vintage band as the trade uses it, and a piece from that period, stored rather than used, arrives in a condition that a seventy-year-old rug off a floor never would: the pile is even and the ends are intact. The trade-off is that the fold lines are set deep and will take a week or two of being walked on before they release.

05Knot by knot, by hand

This one wants professional washing before it goes down, and a plain vacuum head afterward. Hand-knotted in Antep; wool throughout, dyed with kök boya. Madder red, which ages toward brick rather than staying bright. Angular Anatolian drawing with a border built from several narrow bands. 116 × 235 cm (3'10" × 7'9"), a long narrow proportion for a hall or a passage. Past seventy years, inside the vintage band as the trade defines it. Chest-stored: even pile and intact ends, but deep fold lines at first. Professional washing before use.

One piece. Corridor rugs take more traffic than any other piece in a house, and this one starts that job with almost all of its pile still in place.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
