02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Natural surface

On the surface: Natural, Wool. The same pattern woven in another yarn becomes another rug; the difference shows at the first touch.

02

Authentic motif

Authentic pattern. Because the pattern comes from inside the weave, it can be followed from the back as well. Built on a colorful ground.

03

Türkiye loom

This rug is woven in Türkiye. It comes straight from the workshop with no reseller layer; the place on the spec sheet and the place it was woven are the same.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. A pad laid underneath holds the rug in place and stops it rubbing against the floor; besides preventing sliding it also extends its life.

Multicolor Handwoven Senneh Kilim — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

Senneh is the old name of Sanandaj, the town in the Kurdish region of western Iran whose weavers gave their name to a whole family of finely drawn flatweaves. This is a handwoven Senneh kilim in wool on cotton, multicolor, made in the Middle East, and it is not a new piece. There is no pile on a kilim.

01Up close to the pattern

The weft is packed hard against the warp until the cloth itself is the pattern, and the same drawing comes up on both faces. Senneh work is known for fineness — a tighter weft and smaller motifs than most village flatweaves — and the color here runs across the whole register rather than settling into a scheme.

02Color, by the light

Reds meet greens meet blues, and because the piece has age on it the dyes have already done most of their moving, so the tones now sit together in a way a new kilim's do not. Wool takes the weft and the color; cotton takes the warp and the strength. It is listed among the house's rare pieces, and rare here describes supply rather than urgency — older kilims in this condition come out of the trade a few at a time.

03Knot by knot, by hand

Being old, it carries the wear of use: a flatweave has no pile to disguise thinning, so the honest description is that this is a used textile, not an unused one. Professional washing, and no household cleaning at all. Handwoven flatweave — wool weft on a cotton warp. Senneh drawing: fine weave, small motifs, no pile. Multicolor, with the tones already settled by age. Woven in the Middle East; an older piece, not new production. Reversible — the pattern reads on both faces. Shows the wear that comes with age; a flatweave cannot hide it. Professional washing only. A single rare piece. What makes a kilim a Senneh kilim? Senneh, now Sanandaj in western Iran, produced flatweaves woven finer than most village work, with small motifs and a tightly packed weft.

04The mark of slow weaving

The name describes that standard of weaving rather than a single pattern, and it has been used in the rug trade for well over a century. How is a kilim different from a knotted rug? A kilim has no pile. The weft threads are packed down over the warp so the pattern is built into the structure itself, which makes the textile thin, light, reversible and considerably harder to weave without the drawing going crooked. It has already outlasted the household it was woven for, which is the only recommendation a textile like this needs.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?
