The story of this rug

Weavers in the Aegean region of Türkiye made this Emirgan Series rug, a handwoven classic in light cream with purple and green worked into the pattern. Viscose in the warp, wool and viscose in the weft; the center is left plain and the ornament is pushed outward toward the border. One piece. Leaving the middle open is a decision, not an omission.

01Color that shifts through the day

Furniture and objects placed on the rug are then read against a clear ground instead of competing with drawing, which is why classical rugs with plain fields keep turning up in rooms that are already full. The purple and green appear at low saturation, closer to a stain in the cream than to a color laid on top of it.

02How it feels underfoot

The overall impression is silk-like rather than woolly, and that comes out of what is in the yarn. The construction is worth stating exactly: viscose warps, and wefts of wool and viscose together. Viscose in the foundation is unusual, and it is what gives the finished rug its thinness and its shine, while the wool supplies the resilience.
