02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool yarn

The air trapped between wool fibers holds heat and keeps the cold of the floor from your feet. The same air balances humidity in summer.

02

Authentic pattern

Authentic pattern. The motif is built while the rug is woven; there is no layer printed on afterward. There is red in the ground.

03

Türkiye weaving tradition

This rug is woven in Türkiye. Where a rug is from is read in its knot and its yarn more than in its pattern; that is why the place on the spec sheet matters.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Once a week with a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile, is enough for everyday care.

Red Anatolian Hand-Knotted Wool Village Pillow Cover, Konya İnlice — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

Sandık eskisi translates as old from the chest: a weaving completed, folded away into a dowry chest, and never put on a floor. This is one, made up as a pillow cover: hand-knotted red wool from İnlice, in Konya province, 57 × 107 cm (1'10" × 3'6"), with Anatolian figures across the face.

01Which tone on the ground

A single piece. The chest is the reason the color is where it is. A rug on a floor loses tone from the top of the pile downward, evenly and slowly; a rug in a chest loses almost none. What it gains instead are creases that were pressed in for years, and they need a few weeks lying flat before they let go.

02Knot by knot, by hand

What does not change is the depth of the red, which on village work of this age is usually the first thing to go and here has not. Knotted in wool, pile side out, and backed for use as a cushion. Village weaving of this kind was done on a narrow loom in a house, in figures the weaver had by heart, and that is why the two halves of the drawing do not quite mirror each other — count the motifs along one edge and then along the other.

03The mark of slow weaving

A piece made from an old weaving is not restockable in any sense. This cover exists because one particular rug was cut down, and when it goes there is nothing behind it. What does sandık eskisi mean? It is a Turkish trade term meaning old out of the chest. A weaving was finished and put away in a dowry chest instead of going down on a floor, so it comes out decades later carrying its color largely intact and showing fold lines from storage rather than wear from use. Will the fold lines come out? In most cases yes.

04From ground to pile

Wool has memory but not a long one, and creases from folded storage relax over a few weeks once the piece is laid flat under its own weight. A professional wash speeds it up and should be the only wet cleaning it gets. Knotted by hand in wool at İnlice, central Türkiye. 57 × 107 cm (1'10" × 3'6"), made up as a pillow cover. Sandık eskisi: kept in a dowry chest, not walked on. Deep red, held better than a floor piece of the same age would hold it. Fold lines from storage relax within a few weeks. The two halves of the drawing do not mirror exactly. Professional cleaning. One of one, and not repeatable. It was looked after for decades and never once used, which is the only reason a village weaving this old still looks like this.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
