Has Halı wove it: cream and gold, silk along the drawing only

On the surface: Natural, Wool, Silk. The shine of the rug, its weight and what its care asks all follow from that choice.
Classic pattern; the motif is built from the yarn itself, not from dye. It does not rub away as the surface wears. The ground reads beige, cream.
This rug is made in Türkiye. Writing the place of production onto the spec sheet also makes clear where the price comes from.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Turning the rug a hundred and eighty degrees once a year spreads the load of sunlight and foot traffic evenly across the surface.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.
Has Halı wove it: cream and gold, silk along the drawing only
This one was woven by Has Halı, a Turkish mill known well beyond Türkiye, and carries that mill's work rather than the house's own. Beige Framed Handwoven Wool Rug, Ottoman Series — Oushak motifs held inside a border, in cream, beige and gold, with Erzurum fleece through the pile and pure silk in the drawing.
A single piece. The frame does what a frame does: a border closes the field and the Oushak motifs sit inside it without spilling. Oushak, the western Anatolian town the English trade has spelled that way for two centuries, gave the world a particular kind of large, loose floral drawing, and the Ottoman series takes it and tightens it.
Where silk falls, the drawing brightens — not everywhere, only along the lines meant to be read first. Cream, beige and gold is a palette that concedes to a room rather than instructing it. The wool is greasy fleece from Erzurum in eastern Anatolia, where the winters are long and the fiber comes off the animal with its lanolin still in it; that is the source of both the sheen and the resilience.
The knot is the Anatolian double knot, symmetrical, tied across two warps, and better at holding detail than at holding speed. Silk is the expensive part and is used sparingly for exactly that reason. Hand it to a rug-washing workshop when the vacuum stops being enough. Woven by Has Halı in Türkiye and carried in the Ottoman series. Erzurum greasy fleece in the pile, pure silk along the pattern lines. Oushak motifs enclosed by a border. Cream, beige and gold — a palette that works in most rooms. Woven with the Anatolian double knot, which is symmetrical and holds fine detail. The silk catches light along the drawing rather than across the whole field. Professional washing only; one piece. It reads as reserved until the light moves and the silk gives it away.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
