The story of this rug

There is one of this in stock. A plain black prayer rug from the Baş Başa series, Tencel® and cotton, measuring 80 × 130 cm, or 2'7" by 4'3", made in Anatolia, with a thin mark set where the forehead comes down and nothing else on the surface at all. Black is the harder of the two colors the series is made in, and it works for the opposite reason white does. White brightens a room; black closes it, and shuts out what is going on around it.

01Where the Border comes from

The surface is entirely uninterrupted, so there is no drawing to follow and no border to reach the end of, and the single mark is the only thing that asks for the eye. That is the whole design, and it took more restraint than a pattern would have. The technique is loom-woven — machine and hand together in the Anatolian workshop tradition — and the fringes are added last, knotted separately by women in the region.

02What the yarn is

Tencel® and cotton are soft to the hand and firm in the weave, and the rug keeps its shape over years with nothing more than professional cleaning. A black prayer rug shows dust and lint sooner than a pale one does, and it is fair to say so before you buy it. Loom-woven in Anatolia, with machine and hand work on the same piece. Tencel® and cotton; a wool-free surface. Entirely plain black, with one fine mark at the point of prostration. A single size, 80 × 130 cm. Fringes knotted separately by women in the district. Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
