Two sizes, and they do different jobs: 120 × 180 cm for a room, 90 × 300 cm for a corridor. The stripes are the whole design and they are deliberately out of step. One band runs the length, the next breaks across it, and the eye keeps moving because nothing on the surface lines up.

01The tone of the ground

Warm brown and cream surface here and there between the darker bands, which is what stops a gray floor from going cold. In the long size the misalignment reads as movement down a hallway; in the shorter one it settles and behaves like texture. Loom-woven means the structure is laid down mechanically and a person finishes the ends by hand.

02From ground to pile

Three yarns share the surface — wool for body, cotton for grip, bamboo viscose for the low shine that comes and goes as you pass it — and the result is thick, close and heavy for its size.

03After the color

Dark and mid-gray hide a great deal, though the cream bands do not, so a hallway with a door to the garden will show its traffic there first. Cleaning goes to a rug workshop.
