The surface uses Natural, Wool. How a rug will feel is set first by the yarn, not by the pattern.
Modern pattern. The motif is not printed on the surface; it is built as the rug is woven. The ground is gray.
This rug is woven in Türkiye and carries the weaving tradition of that region. The place of production is stated openly on the spec sheet.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Blot a spill with a dry cloth instead of rubbing it; rubbing spreads the stain and mats the pile.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.
Light gray to anthracite, wool on cotton off an Aegean loom
It reads like a city seen from directly overhead, spread out and slowly changing: a gray abstract loom-woven wool rug, Tempus Series — light gray through anthracite with warm cream and beige surfacing here and there, 200 × 300 cm and 6'7" × 9'10" in feet, woven in wool and cotton in the Aegean region of Türkiye. There is no border and no repeat holding the drawing in place, so the composition runs off all four edges and the room decides where it stops.
The grays are layered rather than blended, a light one over an anthracite, with cream breaking through wherever the pile changes direction. Matt and faintly bright areas follow each other across the surface as the light shifts.
It suits the floor in front of a gray or pale sofa, or the space under a bed where it shows on three sides. Loom-woven is the honest word for it. The structure is laid on a mechanical loom and everything at the edges is finished by hand, which gives the look and the weight of a knotted piece for far fewer hours of work, and the house does not claim more than that.
The wool comes from Anatolian sheep and the foundation is cotton. Medium in height and closely packed, the pile gives dust little to settle into and stays comfortable underfoot. Tempus is a short list: Halıcızade went through several hundred designs before settling on the handful the series is made from. Loom-woven in the Aegean region of Türkiye — machine structure, hand finishing. Wool pile from Anatolian sheep, on a cotton foundation. Layered grays from light through anthracite, with cream and beige coming through. No border and no repeat, so the pattern runs off every edge. Medium pile, densely packed, and straightforward to vacuum. 200 × 300 cm (6'7" × 9'10") — a sitting room floor or the length of a bedroom. The series is made in other sizes and other patterns. For a deep clean, a rug workshop. It is the rug for somebody who wants the weight of a hand-knotted piece and is not willing to pretend it is one.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
