Navy Plain Loom-Woven Wool Rug

From a loom in India: Plain Navy Loom-Woven Wool Rug — 80% wool, 20% natural fiber, weight 3,300 g/m², pile 7 mm, moving out of navy through gray and into beige across the field. The changes are small enough that the eye never catches them happening, and from standing height the whole rug reads as one deep color. Navy at this depth is the color of the hour after sunset — cool, settled, the day's heat gone out of it.

01How it is protected

Nothing about the surface is bright and nothing is washed out. Because the gradation is so quiet the rug works as easily in a new room as in an old-fashioned one, and it wants a wide floor: the more of it there is, the more of the run from navy to beige can be read at once. Loom-woven in Indian workshops, hand knotting and machine knotting combined.

The wool carries the color and the weight keeps the rug seated. Daily upkeep amounts to a vacuum and an occasional wipe, and shedding and pilling are not an issue in ordinary use.
