Gray and Orange Frame-Pattern Loom-Woven Bamboo Viscose Rug, Tempus Series

This rug is built like a picture frame: light gray held in the middle, orange and terracotta gathering as you move outward, and the abstract drawing concentrated at the edges where a table or a sofa will not cover it.

01From ground to pile

Loom-woven in bamboo viscose over a cotton warp, on the Aegean side of Türkiye. Six sizes are made, topping out at 250 × 350 cm (8'2" × 11'6"). Framing is a practical decision more than an aesthetic one.

02Where it sits in the house

Anything you put in the middle of a rug disappears under the furniture, so a design that keeps its color at the perimeter still reads once the dining table is standing on it — which is why this is the Tempus pattern people buy for a kitchen or a dining room.

03Up close to the pattern

At 160 × 230 cm (5'3" × 7'7") the orange border falls clear of a four-seat table; go smaller and the chairs will sit on it. The gray center is pale enough to keep the room light, and the orange arrives gradually rather than at a hard line. Bamboo viscose makes the whole surface, over a cotton warp, and it is a lustrous fiber — the rug is brighter from one side of the room than the other and the orange changes weight accordingly.

04Knot by knot, by hand

The Aegean looms lay the structure and hand work completes the finish, the same arrangement across the Tempus series. Medium thickness, closely woven, low lint. The tree of life on it belongs to the house and appears on every Tempus rug.

05What the yarn is

Bamboo viscose does show a footmark on a fresh surface; walking across it or brushing the pile back clears it. Loom-woven in the Aegean region of Türkiye, machine structure with hand finishing. Bamboo viscose surface on a cotton warp, with the sheen that comes with the fiber. Light gray center, orange and terracotta gathering toward the edges. Drawn as a frame, so the pattern survives a table standing on it. Medium thickness, closely woven, low lint release. Carries the Halıcızade tree of life. Six sizes: 80 × 150, 80 × 300, 130 × 190, 160 × 230, 200 × 300 and 250 × 350 cm. It takes footmarks on a fresh surface; brush the pile back, and have it professionally washed for a deep clean. Most rugs are ruined by the furniture standing on them, and this one was drawn on the assumption that furniture would.
