The story of this rug

Cream Frame-Pattern Handwoven Wool and Silk Rug, Sultanahmet Series, 168 × 247 cm (5'6" × 8'1"): brick and faded pink flowers laid on a cream ground, with pale green and gold leaves running the frame border.

01From the hand of the weaver

Woven by hand in India, wool on the surface and silk in the pattern. One piece. Terracotta sets the temperature here, and the faded pink beside it keeps the whole from going warm and heavy. The leaves in the border are drawn in pale green and gold and they move rather than repeat, which is what makes a frame border feel like a run of drawing instead of a fence. The pattern is spread evenly enough that a dining table can stand in the middle of it without the composition collapsing. Indian weavers keeping the Anatolian Oushak repertoire made this by hand: tens of thousands of knots, and several months to a piece of this size.

02The Wool on the surface

Wool gives the surface its body, and the silk goes into the flower petals and the leaf turns, where extra light picks out detail wool would swallow. The pile is medium, deep enough to be comfortable and shallow enough to vacuum without fighting it.

03The tone of the ground

Send it out for professional washing at the point where vacuuming stops being enough. Handwoven in India, in the Anatolian Oushak tradition. Wool surface with silk in the flowers and the leaf turns. 168 × 247 cm (5'6" × 8'1") — a dining table or a seating group. Cream ground with brick and faded pink flowers. Frame border of pale green and gold leaf motifs. Tens of thousands of knots, several months at the loom. Medium pile; it vacuums easily and washes professionally. Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
