The story of this rug

Something between a faded photograph and a well-worn shirt: pale patterning scattered over a gray ground, on a loom-woven rug from India, 166 × 260 cm (5'5" × 8'6"), built from cotton and viscose. It is noticeably thinner than a conventional rug, and that is deliberate.

01Which tone on the ground

A single piece. Light gray holds the field, beige comes through it in patches, and a very soft blue shows up where the drawing has been left strongest. The design is vintage in treatment, worn away rather than printed sharp, so from a distance it registers as texture and only close up as pattern.

02At the loom in in India

That is the point of a faded rug: it gives a room a floor with some history in it without committing to a period. Cotton and viscose, both plant-derived, worked together on looms in India by weavers who also weave by hand. The result has the appearance of a hand-woven surface at about half the bulk, and thinness has consequences worth stating in both directions — it slides under a door and a sofa easily, it rolls small, and it gives less cushioning than a wool pile.

03What the yarn is

Underfoot the viscose feels smooth and cool rather than warm. When a vacuum stops being enough, it goes to a rug washer. Made on Indian looms, in cotton and viscose. 166 × 260 cm (5'5" × 8'6"): mid-sized rooms and bedrooms. Light gray field with beige patches and a soft blue in the drawing. Vintage treatment: the pattern is worn back rather than printed sharp. Distinctly thin — it fits under doors and rolls small. Smooth and cool underfoot rather than deep and warm. Professional washing for anything past a vacuum. One piece. It is the rug to choose when the room already has enough weight in it and what is missing is a floor that recedes.

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
