The story of this rug

Four thousand five hundred grams to the square meter, with the pile standing 12 mm high: Gray Plain Loom-Woven Viscose Rug, made entirely in viscose, with no pattern on it whatsoever. The gray sits at stone rather than at silver, and the only event on the surface is the way it turns from bright to matt as you move around it. Viscose is spun from cellulose and behaves toward light roughly as silk does, which is the entire reason a plain rug like this is worth having.

01Which tone on the ground

Stand at one end of a room and the floor looks lit from inside; cross to the other and it settles into a flat, quiet stone gray. The tone was chosen to sit in the middle of the range — not cold enough to pull blue under a north window, not warm enough to fight a beige sofa. The consequence of that sheen is footmarks.

02Underfoot

They show, they last, and the only remedy is to sweep the nap the opposite way with a hand or a soft brush. If that would irritate you every day then this is the wrong rug, and better said now than later. The term for this construction is loom-woven: built mechanically, completed by hand, and considerably denser than anything a fully automatic loom turns out. At 12 mm the pile is deep enough to be soft and shallow enough to slide a door across.

03What the yarn is

It sheds very little, which is a fact about the yarn rather than a promise about your house. A professional wash clears it properly; nothing sold for domestic use will get to the base. Loom-woven, entirely in viscose. 4,500 g/m² — the weight is in the hand as soon as you lift a corner. 12 mm pile: thick, full and soft without becoming shaggy. Stone gray, in the middle of the range rather than toward blue or beige. The surface moves between bright and matt depending on where you stand. Takes footmarks; sweeping the nap the other way clears them. Sheds very little and vacuums easily. A workshop wash reaches the base of the pile; nothing sold for home use does. It is the rug for a bedroom floor you want to walk on barefoot, provided you can live with seeing where you walked.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
