The story of this rug

Cotton in the foundation, viscose through the surface — both plant fibers, and between them they make a rug far thinner and more flexible than its footprint suggests. A loom-woven vintage-pattern rug in gray, 166 × 260 cm (5'5" × 8'6"), from India.

01Which tone on the ground

A single piece. Faded gray, soft beige and a blue so pale it barely registers move across the field in the transitions that give the design its worn look. Nothing about it is sharp. A loom made it rather than a pair of knotting hands, and it carries the appearance of hand weaving at a fraction of the bulk, which is the reason people buy this construction: it rolls up small, it lifts with one hand, and it goes down flat in a hall as readily as under a low table.

The pile is shallow, so a bare foot will find it cool rather than warm. Halıcızade keeps it out of the kitchen and recommends you do the same. Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
