The story of this rug

Navy Authentic-Pattern Loom-Woven Wool Rug, Urkum Series — wool pile on a cotton foundation, ethnic figures set over a navy ground, woven on a loom in India for Halıcızade. It measures 60 × 90 cm (2'0" × 2'11"), which is the small end of a series that runs up to salon sizes, and only one exists in this navy. A rug this small has nowhere to hide. Across nine square meters a pattern can spread out and repeat itself; across half a square meter the weaver has room for a border and a handful of figures, and every one of them has to earn its place.

01Knot by knot, by hand

The Urkum drawing belongs to the family that came off nomadic looms — figures put down by eye rather than counted onto a grid — and at this scale that free placement is easier to read than it would be across a whole floor. Loom-woven means the body of the rug is laid down on the loom and the ends are finished by hand once it comes off.

02What the yarn is

Wool on top, cotton underneath, which is why it lies flat straight out of the roll instead of curling at the corners the way an all-wool foundation can. A mat in a doorway takes more traffic per square centimeter than anything else in a house, so this one will show wear where feet land before it shows it anywhere else.

Wash it professionally: a piece this size is small enough to tempt someone toward a machine, and wool does not forgive that. Made on the loom in India for Halıcızade, finished by hand. Cotton foundation under a wool pile. Navy ground with authentic ethnic figures placed by eye. 60 × 90 cm (2'0" × 2'11") — an entrance, a bedside, the floor in front of a sink. Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
