What changes at 240 centimeters of width
The arrangement changes, and with it the way the room reads.
Below this width a rug can only be laid in front of the furniture or slipped under its front legs. The back legs stay on bare floor, the seating group stands half on and half off, and the rug organizes a room by pointing at it. At 240 cm the rug is wide enough to take the whole footprint: sofa, chairs and table stand on the pile with floor showing outside them, and the group becomes an object sitting on a surface rather than a set of things arranged around a mat.
The practical consequences are real. Furniture on a rug does not slide against a hard floor, and it does not scuff one. Eight square meters or nine?
Nine square meters means 250 × 350 cm — 10 cm wider and 10 cm longer. That is a smaller difference than the names suggest, and the choice usually comes down to shape rather than area.

What is woven at this size, and what it costs to keep
Price rises faster than area at this end of the range, because a hand-knotted rug is priced by the knot and the knots go up with the square meter.
