Flowers thrown across the field rather than set in ranks — beige, cream and a pale green, at intervals loose enough that the ground stays open between them. The scattered arrangement is the older Anatolian habit, and it makes the rug easier to live with than a medallion does: there is no single point that has to stay uncovered by furniture.

01Color, by the light

Pale green is the unexpected color and it appears only in the leaves, which keeps the whole scheme cool where cream and beige alone would go creamy. Where the bamboo viscose falls, the flowers lift out of the wool with a silk-like light; where the wool carries the ground, everything stays matt.

02Knot by knot, by hand

The two together are what give the surface its layered look. Tight knotting and a great deal of hand labor lie behind it, and after the weaving each motif was carved around with shears, which is a slow job done by eye.

03From ground to pile

Wool and cotton form the base, bamboo viscose the pattern. It suits a room with classical lines, and at this size it will fill a living room floor or the space in front of a long sofa.
