01After the color

Measure the floor before ordering, because a piece at this footprint cannot be tucked anywhere. The drawing is abstract, and the contrast is deliberately low — marks placed across a gray ground rather than a repeating figure — and at this size that restraint is doing real work.

02Choosing the size

A strongly patterned rug of ten square meters would take a room over completely; a quiet one at the same size sets the floor and leaves the argument to whatever stands on it. Gray is the most negotiable of the neutrals, going cool beside white walls and blue upholstery and warm beside oak and brass, so the same rug reads two different ways depending on the room it lands in.
