The story of this rug

At 274 × 366 cm (9'0" × 12'0") and 305 × 427 cm (10'0" × 14'0") these are room-covering sizes, the kind that go under all four legs of the furniture rather than in front of it. Mink abstract handwoven rug from the Aren series, wool with viscose, made in India, with one piece held in each size. In-house the name is glossed as the single brightest grain a desert can produce, and the palette answers that: mink and beige, the tones sand actually is, with the light doing the work a pattern would otherwise have to do.

01Color, by the light

The drawing is abstract and low in contrast, which is the only sensible approach at this scale — a bold repeat across fourteen feet becomes wallpaper, while a quiet one becomes ground. Against pale oak the mink warms; on a dark stone floor it lifts and reads paler than it is. Handwoven in India, wool and viscose spun into the same surface: the wool gives body and the viscose gives the sheen that lifts the mink out of flatness.

02Knot by knot, by hand

Sizes like these are the reason a rug gets made by hand at all, since a piece three meters across has to be carried the whole width in one span with even tension, or it will not lie flat afterward.

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
