Burgundy and Earth-Tone Oushak Hand-Knotted Wool Rug

These were woven in Türkiye until Anatolian hand-knotting thinned out; now they come from India. This one is a classic Oushak in burgundy and earth tones, tied by hand in wool over a Manchester cotton spine. The design sits in the classical literature and has been produced for hundreds of years.

01Which tone on the ground

Single piece. Red is what you see first and the earth tones are what hold it. The reds are deep and bright at once, a function of wool taking dye well rather than of the dye itself, and the browns and tans around them absorb enough of the energy to make the rug livable.
