The story of this rug

An Anatolian pattern woven in Afghanistan is not a contradiction; it is most of the modern trade. This is handwoven wool in mixed color, 178 × 239 cm (5'10" × 7'10"), drawn from the Anatolian village repertoire and made a long way east of it, with cotton and synthetic yarn listed beside the wool.

01The origin of the pattern

Authentic is the design word the house uses. One piece. The Anatolian village vocabulary is geometric where the court repertoire is floral: hooked medallions, stepped diamonds, ram's-horn figures, borders made of repeated small units rather than a continuous vine.

02The mark of slow weaving

It was drawn from memory by weavers who had learned it from other weavers, which is why no two versions of the same design agree and why the motifs shift by a row or two down the length of any honest example.

03The geography of the weave

That drift is the signature of the tradition and it is the first thing a printed imitation gets wrong. Handwoven in Afghanistan for the Şahzade series. Three yarns are declared: wool, cotton and a synthetic component.

04Which tone on the ground

A rug in mixed color is easier to live with than a single-ground one for the same reason a tweed is easier to live with than a solid — with several tones present, whatever gets spilled on it is already somewhere in the palette.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
