01The origin of the pattern

A long narrow field has no center to build on, so the drawing puts a border around it and lets the length do the rest of the work. On black it is the frame you actually see; the ground behind it reads as depth rather than as color until you are standing over it.

A runner is the hardest shape to weave straight, since any drift in tension turns up over three meters as a rug that will not lie against a wall, and length like this is the real test of a workshop.
