02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Natural yarn

On the surface: Natural, Wool, Silk. Writing the yarn onto the spec sheet is saying in advance how the rug will age.

02

Classic pattern

Classic pattern; the motif is built from the yarn itself, not from dye. It does not rub away as the surface wears. The ground reads beige, cream.

03

Türkiye production

This rug is made in Türkiye. Writing the place of production onto the spec sheet also makes clear where the price comes from.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Turning the rug a hundred and eighty degrees once a year spreads the load of sunlight and foot traffic evenly across the surface.

Cream Oushak Floral Hand-Knotted Wool and Silk Rug, Sultan Series — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

The Sultan series is no longer woven. What remains of it includes this: a cream rug of 207 × 287 cm (6'9" × 9'5"), worked by hand in Türkiye in wool and silk, its flower motifs taken from the Oushak repertoire and set out in cream, gold-yellow and green.

01How it feels underfoot

Wool makes the ground; silk carries the drawing. The balance of those three colors is the whole design. Cream holds the field, gold-yellow does the work a border color usually does, and green appears only where the flowers need a stem or a leaf — so the pattern reads as a garden in outline rather than a filled one. Matt wool behind and glossy silk in front is an old device in Anatolian weaving, and it is why the flowers seem to sit a little above the ground even though the pile is level.

02What Wool does

It goes as easily with a carved walnut cabinet as with a black metal table, which is unusual for a rug this classical. Wool and silk in the same pile give two things at once: the wool takes the wear and the silk takes the light.

03At the loom in in Türkiye

The knot count is high — the density is what allows a flower this small to be drawn at all — and the series was discontinued, so the number in existence is the number there will be. Silk in a pile is the fiber that shows wear first, which is an argument for keeping this out of a doorway. Washing belongs to a professional. Knotted in Türkiye at a count that few looms still reach. Wool ground with silk in the motifs. Cream, gold-yellow and green; Oushak-derived flower drawing. 207 × 287 cm (6'9" × 9'5") — a seating group, a bedroom or a study. Suits carved wood and plain modern metal equally. Silk shows wear before wool does, so keep it clear of doorways. Professional washing. The Sultan series is out of production; this is one of the remaining pieces. Is the Sultan series still being woven? No.

Production ended, and what is on the shelf is what is left. Each piece was knotted in Türkiye, wool and silk together, at a density that few looms in the country still reach, which is the reason the series was closed rather than continued at a lower standard. Why put silk only in the motifs? Silk reflects light and wool absorbs it, so confining the silk to the drawing makes the pattern appear to stand above the ground.

04From ground to pile

It also puts the more delicate fiber where it is seen and leaves the harder-wearing wool where feet land. A rug from a closed series is worth more to the person who kept it than to the person who bought it, which is usually the same person thirty years apart.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
