The story of this rug

Patchwork here is a drawing, not a construction: this rug was woven as one piece, with every panel knotted in place rather than cut and sewn. Anadolu Şal Series Earth-Tone Patchwork Handwoven Wool Rug, 250 × 341 cm (8'2" × 11'2"), made by hand in Anatolia in earth tones, with navy and orange running through them. Each panel carries a different traditional figure — some from the classical rug repertoire, others from the shawl weaving that gives the series its name — so the field is a sequence rather than a repeat.

01Color, by the light

Warm browns and ochres hold most of the surface, navy gives it its weight, orange its energy. At eight and a half square meters there is room for every panel to be seen on its own, which a smaller patchwork cannot offer. It is the work of women weaving in Anatolia over months, in first-grade wool with the softness and the natural luster that grade brings with it. A rug this large is heavy and will not be moved casually once it is down.

02Where it is laid

Put it under plainly colored furniture and it holds the traditional and the modern in one room without either winning. Cleaning is a job for a rug specialist. Woven as a single piece in Anatolia — the patchwork is knotted, not stitched. First-grade wool, soft with a natural shine. 250 × 341 cm (8'2" × 11'2"), about eight and a half square meters. Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
