02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool rug

Wool ages over the years by settling into its place rather than by losing its shine. Used, it softens rather than hardens.

02

Authentic pattern

Authentic pattern. The motif is built row by row as the weaving advances; it is only seen whole once it comes off the loom. The ground color is colorful.

03

Afghanistan weave

This rug is woven in Afghanistan. The place of production is written on the spec sheet; it comes straight from the workshop that wove it, with no reseller chain.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. For everyday care use a head without a beater bar and follow the direction of the pile; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Multicolor Anatolian-Pattern Hand-Knotted Wool Rug — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

Afghanistan is where this one was knotted, by hand and by traditional method, and the motifs on it are saddlebag motifs — the patterns woven for centuries onto the bags slung across a horse's back.

01The tone of the ground

Red, blue, yellow, green and earth tones, arranged in bands across 214 × 284 cm (7'0" × 9'4"). Wool surface, cotton foundation. One piece. The design runs in lines rather than around a center, which is what saddlebag drawing does: each band is a self-contained unit, and the rug reads as a sequence instead of a composition. Colors sit beside one another at full strength, with no attempt made to blend them, and the effect at floor level is closer to a striped textile than to a classical rug.

02From ground to pile

The earth tones between the brights are what keep it from becoming noise. Everything you can touch is wool. Beneath it the foundation is cotton, carrying a small amount of synthetic yarn for tensile strength — a detail the house prints rather than rounding up to all-natural.

03Coming off the loom

Afghan weaving of this kind is done on village looms, and the irregularity that follows — a band a few millimeters wider at one end than at the other — is a property of the method and not a fault in the piece. It is robust and it will take traffic.

04What Wool does

Cleaning: a rug washer, once it needs more than the vacuum. Hand-knotted in Afghanistan by traditional village method. Wool face; the cotton foundation carries a little synthetic yarn for strength. Red, blue, yellow, green and earth tones at full saturation. Saddlebag motifs, arranged in bands rather than around a medallion. 214 × 284 cm (7'0" × 9'4") — a full sitting room or a large office. Slight irregularity between bands is the method showing, not a defect. Hard-wearing; suits bohemian, ethnic and rustic rooms. Professional washing.

05Which furniture, which room

A single piece. Rugs like this were made to be carried, and it still looks better in a room with a bit of movement in it than in one without.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?
