Gold coming up through gray, the gloss put on after weaving

The surface uses Wool. How a rug will feel is set first by the yarn, not by the pattern.
Modern, Classic pattern. The motif is built while the rug is woven; there is no layer printed on afterward. There is gray in the ground.
This rug is woven in Pakistan. Where a rug is from is read in its knot and its yarn more than in its pattern; that is why the place on the spec sheet matters.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Once a week with a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile, is enough for everyday care.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.
Gold coming up through gray, the gloss put on after weaving
Walk around it and it changes: from one side this Retro Series vintage-pattern rug is bright and lit, from the other dark and matt. Handwoven in wool on a cotton warp, in gray, gold and brown, 207 × 287 cm (6'9" × 9'5") — knotted in Pakistan. One piece. That reversal is the pile direction, and it is what the Retro Series is built around.
The drawing underneath it is Oushak, several centuries old, redrawn here in colors nobody was using for it then — a gray field with gold coming through the motifs and brown holding the outlines.
In a room with two light sources you get both states at once, one half of the floor bright and the other deep. The effect is strongest on a plain floor and in a room where furniture is not pushed to the walls. Wool over a cotton warp gives this rug a thin body with a great deal of strength in it, which is the combination the older weaving centers always favored for large sizes.
Weavers in Pakistan tied it with the double knot, set close together, with a trace of recycled synthetic yarn worked into the skeleton for strength, and the piece was then dyed and washed by the series' own method — that finishing step is what puts the gloss on it, and every Retro rug goes through the same one.
From a living room to an office it takes traffic without flattening. Keep the cleaning in professional hands. Handwoven in Pakistan, double knot, densely set. Wool pile on a cotton warp — thin in the hand, strong underfoot. A trace of recycled synthetic yarn in the skeleton, for strength. Oushak motifs redrawn in gray, gold and brown. The surface reads bright from one direction and matt from the other. The gloss is produced by the dyeing and washing applied to every piece in the series. 207 × 287 cm (6'9" × 9'5") for a living or dining room. Professional washing. One piece. Photographs of it disagree with each other, and all of them are right.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
