This one is thick — 14 mm of pile at 3,500 g/m² — and thickness has a consequence worth stating before anything else: it is not the rug for someone sensitive to dust. 01The origin of the pattern

A worker takes the pile down along the joint lines with shears, so the pattern exists as depth rather than color and the rug reads almost architecturally — a wall laid flat. Gray moves between silver, mink and ivory across the surface, softening in direct light and going deeper in a dim room.

02Knot by knot, by hand

At this pile height it is genuinely soft to stand on, and that is the first thing anyone notices about it. Loom-woven in India, which here means hand labor and machine knotting meeting on the same loom, with the finishing done by hand.

03From ground to pile

The yarn is entirely recycled polyester, so the surface wipes and vacuums without complaint and holds color well. The trade-off is the one already named: a deep synthetic pile of this kind traps more than a flat one, and it is not the rug we would choose for someone who reacts to dust.

04Coming off the loom

In a bedroom, where it is walked on barefoot and vacuumed weekly, it earns its keep. 05How it is protected

Once weaving is complete, hand shears take the pile down along the outlines, lowering some areas and leaving others at full height, and the design then reads through shadow and depth instead of color. What is a rug made of recycled polyester like to live with? Recycled polyester holds its color, resists crushing and cleans easily with a vacuum or a damp cloth.

06The Wool on the surface

It has no natural spring the way wool does, so the softness comes from pile height instead. At 14 millimeters this one is deep and soft rather than firm. A gray brick wall, laid down flat and made soft, which is a stranger idea than the photograph makes it look.
