Orange Flower-Cut Loom-Woven Bamboo Viscose Rug, Tempus Series

This one is not a rectangle and not a circle. The outline is cut to an asymmetric flower — petals of unequal length running out from the center — which makes the shape the first thing about it and the pattern the second.

01From ground to pile

It is loom-woven at the Aegean end of Türkiye in bamboo viscose over a cotton warp, in light and dark orange over cream, at 120, 160, 200, 250 and 300 cm across. At 200 × 200 cm (6'7" × 6'7") the petal edges reach past a coffee table on every side, and because no two petals are the same length the rug refuses to line up with anything — which is exactly what a cut shape is for.

02After the color

The lighter orange carries the energy and the darker one gives the ground its depth, with cream holding the space between them open. Bamboo viscose takes light the way silk does, so the two oranges are never quite the same tone twice in a day.

03What Viscose does

It suits an entrance, a bedroom or a kitchen floor better than a formal sitting room, and the house says so rather than claiming it works everywhere. Bamboo viscose makes the whole surface over a cotton warp, and the rug is built the way everything in the series is: mechanically at the loom, by hand at the end.

04How it is protected

The pile is middling and closely set, so it sheds very little and takes a vacuum without trouble — although a cut edge wants the nozzle run along it rather than across. It carries the tree of life that Halıcızade puts on its own designs.
