Cream Abstract Loom-Woven Wool and Tencel Rug, Zima Series

Six-seven by nine-ten in feet, 200 × 300 cm in metric, is the size at which a rug stops decorating a room and starts setting its terms. This one is cream through the middle and silvering toward the edges, woven from wool and Tencel® over a cotton foundation, from the Zima series, with the abstract drift the series is known for and no border to close it. Cream holds the center open; a silver-gray comes in from the edges and stops before it becomes a border, so the frame is felt rather than drawn. Against gray and beige upholstery it disappears in the best sense; put one red or blue object in the room and the whole floor tilts toward it.

It also likes weight — a big solid table, rustic wood, something with mass — because a pale open rug beside delicate furniture starts to look like a dust sheet. Wool and Tencel® are worked together into the pile over a 100% cotton foundation: wool is the durable, matt component and Tencel® supplies the light, which is why the surface is neither shiny nor dead.
