Orange Oushak Loom-Woven Tencel Rug, Zade Series

Orange in a rug is almost never orange; it runs to brick, and that is what happens here. Zade series Oushak-pattern rug, loom-woven in Türkiye with Tencel® over cotton, a classical floral field inside a border, 200 × 300 cm, which converts to 6'7" × 9'10". Color is what carries this piece. A brick-leaning orange is warm at both ends of the day — it takes tungsten light and goes deeper, and it takes cold morning light without turning pink, which is the failure mode of every orange that has too much red in it.

01What it sits well with

Set against light oak or walnut it agrees with the wood instead of competing; set against a cream sofa it becomes the only source of temperature in the room. The Oushak drawing on top of it is the old one: a repeating arrangement of flowers and leaves held inside a frame, so the field carries the color and the border stops it. The body of this rug was built by machine and finished by hand, which is what loom-woven describes, and Halıcızade uses the word rather than reaching for a grander one.

02The Tencel on the surface

The surface is Tencel®, a lyocell; the ground beneath it is cotton. Every piece in the series carries a tree of life as the house mark, which is Halıcızade's signature rather than a label sewn on.

03The tone of the ground

Worth knowing about a strong ground color: it commits the room. This rug will decide what the curtains can be. Wash it professionally. Loom-woven in Türkiye — machine structure, hand finishing.
