Every rug in this collection is woven in viscose, Tencel® or cotton, and none of them contains wool. The yarn is what sets the surface: a straight filament lies flatter than wool, takes light directly, and does not shed the way spun wool does.

Wool is the yarn most Turkish rugs are built on, so a rug without it is a deliberate choice rather than a default. What changes is the surface: how long the pile stands, how it reflects light, and how it is cleaned.

Which Yarns Are in This Collection

Most of the collection is Tencel® and viscose. Tencel® is Lenzing's trade name for a cellulose-based fiber whose generic name is lyocell; the filament is straight and it takes light directly. Cotton is used both as a surface yarn and as the warp. In part of the collection acrylic is woven alongside cotton. Each rug's yarn content is listed on its own product page.

How the Surface Differs From Wool

Wool pile is crimped: the fibers catch on each other and stand up, building volume at the surface. Tencel® and viscose filaments are straight, so the pile is shorter and lies flatter. Cotton sits between the two — matte, soft, light. Spun wool releases short loose fibers for the first months of its life; a filament yarn has no short ends to release, so these rugs do not shed in that way.

Where These Rugs Work

  • Hallways and entryways, where a short pile takes traffic without matting.
  • Living rooms, where the sheen of Tencel® and viscose reads against matte furniture.
  • Rooms where a shedding rug is a nuisance — under a dining table, or next to a dark sofa.
  • Prayer rugs and flatweave kilims in the same yarns are part of this collection.
  • Not where you want wool's underfoot volume — a short pile will not give you that.

Care and Cleaning

Vacuum in the direction of the pile. Tencel® and viscose weaken while wet, so avoid heavy water and rug shampoo; blot a spill straight away rather than rubbing it. On cotton pieces, spot-clean with warm water. Leave anything larger to a rug cleaner. Each rug's own care note is on its product page.

Sizes and Price

The collection holds hand-loomed rugs, machine-woven kilims, prayer rugs and a few hand-woven pieces together. Price follows yarn type, weave density and size. Each rug's real dimensions and current price are on its own page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do these rugs shed?

Not the way a wool rug does. Spun wool releases short loose fibers for its first months; viscose, Tencel® and cotton filament yarns have no short ends to release.

Do any rugs in this collection contain wool?

No. A rug enters this collection only when wool does not appear in its yarn content. The yarns are cotton, Tencel® and viscose, with acrylic alongside cotton in some pieces.

Are Tencel and lyocell the same thing?

Lyocell is the generic name of the cellulose-based fiber. Tencel® is Lenzing's trade name for it. Same fiber, one generic name and one brand name.

How does the surface differ from a wool rug?

Wool pile is crimped and builds volume at the surface. Tencel® and viscose filaments are straight, so the pile is shorter and lies flatter. Cotton sits between the two — matte, soft and light.

How do I clean a viscose or Tencel rug?

Vacuum in the direction of the pile. These fibers weaken while wet, so avoid heavy water and rug shampoo; blot a spill straight away and leave anything larger to a rug cleaner.

What kinds of rugs are in this collection?

Hand-loomed rugs, machine-woven kilims, prayer rugs and a few hand-woven pieces. Each rug's type, size and yarn content are on its own product page.

Which rooms suit these rugs?

Hallways, entryways and living rooms, where a short pile takes traffic. If you want wool's volume underfoot, this collection will not give you that.
